Youth Theatre

The Talent Shack Youth Theatre is more than just a stage.

Led by Ashley Cummings, we offer a supportive community where young people can feel safe to be themselves and discover who they are. It goes beyond just acting, allowing participants to create and control their own creative output, from devising original plays and staging bespoke book adaptions, to giving young people a sense of ownership over their work.

In this environment, The Talent Shack’s Youth Theatre isn’t just about being on stage. It covers various aspects of theatre including writing scripts, movement, physical theatre, dramatic combat, and technical stage design. This way, every young person can explore and excel in whichever area of theatre they enjoy the most.

Participants also gain important life skills like teamwork and problem-solving, preparing them for different challenges in the future.

Youth Theatre 1 is an exhilarating creative experience for children aged 6-11. In weekly 1.5 hour classes, they experience an entry level of drama and storytelling. The group collectively explore a range of genres and characters through drama games and script work.

WEDNESDAY 5 – 6.30pm

Youth theatre 2 takes devising to the next level. Aimed at teens, this group adapts or creates from scratch their own pieces of theatre, performed on our bespoke stage.

WEDNESDAY 6.30 – 8.30pm

Youth Theatre 3 focusses on pre-existing scripts and plays. If you prefer to work with text, developing characters based on what’s already written, then this is the class for you! YT3 recently produced DNA by Dennis Kelly.

THURSDAY 6.30 – 8.30pm

Fees:

New for 2025!  Regular monthly payments of £52.79 (Youth Theatre 1) or £70.39 (Youth Theatre 2 & 3) on the 1st of each month,  January – July 2025. We invoice 2 weeks before the start of each month and payment is to be made on the 1st of each month.  Optional part payment to spread the cost.

Our terms run along the Cardiff and Vale school timetable.

Bursary Places:

100% Bursary places are available for all our group classes. We are looking to support families who could do with some help in the current climate. All we ask is that your child is committed and enthusiastic and family are supportive and willing to bring them each week.  You do not need previous experience.  The identity of those who receive a bursary is confidential and not shared with the team, students or other families.
