OUR SHOWS

Twice a year we stage full scale musicals at The Paget Rooms, a beautiful grade II listed Victorian theatre in Penarth, Vale of Glamorgan.  Auditions are open to everyone aged 7 to 16 regardless of whether you are a member of our stage school or not.  Ideally you will attend our Musical Theatre School 11-2pm on Saturdays before rehearsing for the show 2.30-5.30pm each week but its not compulsory.  There is a discount for those who do the full day with us.   To apply for a show audition pack with all the information you need for the upcoming show please email hello@shelleynorton.co.uk  Everyone wishing to take part in our next show is invited to attend an audition.  Its a great experience and the audition “panel” are very encouraging and supportive.   The audition is our chance to get to know our new cast so we work to strengths and cast everyone to aid their development and enjoyment; and put on the best show possible!

CAST

Our cast is made up of young people aged 7 to 16. No previous experience necessary but an understanding of the commitment and hard work needed to take part in a full scale production is useful.

REHEARSALS

Rehearsals are every Saturday afternoon 2.30-5.30pm at The Talent Shack, home to The Talent Shack Stage School and Management. Fees are £250 for the whole rehearsal process plus a one off £50 towards show costs

BACKSTAGE

We also offer a Backstage Course that runs alongside every production. Ideal for those interested in developing their skills in stage management, lighting, sound, set design, costume, props and anything else that doesn’t involve actually performing on the stage!

LEARNING

We have a team of professionals who will work with the young backstage crew and guide them through the rehearsal process and show week so they learn on the job and help put on a full scale show whilst building real skills in theatre production.

COMMITMENT

We expect commitment from all our cast and whereas illness can’t be helped we ask that our cast prioritise rehearsals and arrive promptly and well prepared.

WORK

We expect you to work hard in rehearsals and go over lines and choreography in your own time so you come to rehearsals ready to work.

BUGSY MALONE

1929, Gangster warfare in New York

Dandy Dan’s hoodlums terrorise the district, exterminating undesirables with their new weapon – splurge guns. His rival is Fat Sam Stacetto, who runs the Grand Slam Speakeasy, but Fat Sam’s gang still use old-fashioned pies. Fat Sam engages the help of Bugsy Malone, a smooth city slicker who hitherto has been more occupied in sweet-talking Blousey Brown, a would-be girl singer. With Bugsy’s help, Fat Sam escapes from a frame-up but he learns later that Dandy Dan’s mob have splurged nearly all his gang. They’ve also destroyed his sarsaparilla and grocery rackets – the whole empire’s gone”. There’s only one hope left. Fat Sam pays Bugsy 400 dollars in exchange for more help. Bugsy, who has promised to take Blousey to Hollywood, has to break his date with her. Is she mad! Meanwhile Bugsy and Leroy Smith, a guy with an awesome punch, witness a secret delivery of splurge guns at Dock 17. With a bunch of down-and-outs, they help themselves from the crates. Then the police arrive, let by Captain Smolsky and Lieutenant O’Dreary. Bugsy and the gang escape through a trapdoor.  Finally Dandy Dan prepares for a showdown at Fat Sam’s speakseasy. When his mob burst in, Bugsy and the guys let ‘em have it – the works. Splurge, custard pies, flour bombs… Out of the gooey pandemonium it emerges that Bugsy and Blousey have made it up. Peace has broken out at last.
