Suitable for ages 4-6 this class offers an introduction in singing, movement and acting skills. We start each session with drama games that build confidence, vocabulary and stage skills. We then move onto dance where they learn simple, fun choreography. We encourage the group to suggest the music and offer moves so they are part of the creative process. Then they sing and work on songs from Disney musicals and films that they love adn they can really get into expression and storytelling. We present showcases for parents through the year so you can see their progress and the children get used to performing in front of an audience.
Saturday Mini’s also have the opportunity to take part in solo LAMDA assessments. The Talent Shack is a registered private exam centre for LAMDA and we run examination days once a year. Our youngest members, Minis, can take their Solo Introductory Exam as part of the Mini’s class. The focus is on performance and communication skills. Children learn to perform a short poem and then have a conversation with the examiner where they explain the rules of a favourite game and describe a family photograph. We work on the presentation of the exam material in class so by the time the child walks into their exam they are well practiced and confidence, albeit a little bit nervous! Running the exam at our own venue also means the child is in familiar surroundings and comfortable. The cost of the exam is separate.
Once they turn 7 they have the option to move up to Saturday Musical Theatre Juniors and Carousel Dance Juniors. Alternatively we have Youth Theatre 1 on Wednesdays if they’d like to focus on drama.
