Our aim is to guide and mentor young people through all the roles in theatre. Its not just performing, there are so many jobs behind the scenes that are viable careers in the arts. These jobs would suit those who enjoy arts and crafts, have digital / IT skills, are well organised and like list making! We encourage everyone to experience the different roles in theatre making here at The Talent Shack.
Learn what it takes to put on a Talent Shack show!
We are building a team of enthusiastic and dedicated teens to learn the backstage skills needed to put on a show and then put those skills to the test on our summer productions. Opportunities include:
Stage Management
Lighting design and operation
Sound design and operation
Costume and prop making / sourcing
Set building / sourcing
Scenic painting
The Commitment / What’s Involved
A 2 hour long weekly session each Thursday, led by Ashley Cummings that will focus on the different roles backstage and go into detail as to what the different roles entail and then specifically for the shows we are working on. He will cover Stage Management, Lighting, Sound, Props and Costume to start with. This will be a real insight into the professional world of theatre and a must for anyone interested in pursuing it as a hobby or career.
5-7pm each Thursday
Cost: £10 a week to cover insurance and running costs. Payable in advance at the start of each half term, by invoice.
Saturday between 10.30 and 6.30 depending on which shows you are working on . Each group is 2.5 hours and you can do one, two or all three show groups.
Saturday is a voluntary programme with no cost attached.
We do expect commitment to the rehearsals and shows though and if a week must be missed please give us as much warning as possible as we rely on the whole team for the shows to run smoothly. *We will need our Backstage Crew to be available for the dress rehearsals and show dates for the show they are allocated to.
If any of these skills appeal to you and you are aged 13-18 please get in touch! You may already be in a class here and wish to help out on other groups shows. Or maybe you’ve never been to the Shack because you don’t want to perform but you are interested in the more technical or behind the scenes element of theatre making.
Now is your time!!
You will be trained, supported and supervised by our team of teachers and professionals at all times.
